PERSONALIZED LEARNING AT HHS: Our digital curriculum, Acellus, continues to empower students to be in control of their own learning. While HHS does not offer a virtual learning program, our personalized learning approach with Acellus allows students to work on their courses anytime, in any environment with an internet connection and a device. While there are always growing pains with new programs and learning tools, the students who attend regularly and commit to spending time on learning outside of school are earning credit at a faster pace as they have the opportunity to work from home in the evenings and on the weekends. In this program, learning is the constant and time is the variable.

Unlike a virtual program, students at HHS engage their learning through Acellus in a classroom setting with a device provided by the school and a content-area expert, fully licensed teacher, to support their learning, proctor all exams, and guide them on their educational journey. Attendance each day is vital to the success of this program as this is not a virtual, online program.

The Acellus program consists of videos recorded by a cadre of master teachers, all of whom have been vetted as some of the best and brightest throughout the country. Many of them have been recognized at the state and national level as Teacher of the Year in their respective states. Courses are broken down into lessons with teachers presenting concepts via video to students in four to twenty-minute segments followed by unit quizzes, mid-term exams, and final exams, all proctored by HHS Staff. Students must pass all quizzes and tests with a minimum score of 60% to earn credit and move on in the course. This cutting edge, competency-based learning approach personalizes learning for students, giving them more control of their time, path, pace and place of learning. The role of the classroom teacher at HHS with this program has shifted from delivering content to that of a learning facilitator/coach as teachers track student progress and help students when they are stuck or having trouble understanding difficult concepts.

ONLINE ENROLLMENT OPENS IN JULY: Enrollment for all students will be done online again this year. Online Enrollment for your student will be available approximately the middle of July. Check the district website for more details.

ORIENTATION/OPEN HOUSE: Orientation/Open House for all HHS Students and parents will take place on Wednesday, August 14th. Students are required to attend one of the three Orientation Sessions with a parent or guardian, if possible. For your convenience, we have meetings scheduled in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Please call the school beginning August 1st during school hours 7:30-3:30 to schedule/verify your appointment.

Orientation will consist of a welcome/presentation followed by students attending their IPS class with parents/guardians for twenty minutes followed by an open house time to meet and greet all staff. This is a great opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to get to know one another better and to go over the course syllabus, classroom management, communication, and to answer any questions you may have.

All students who attend Orientation with a parent or guardian will have early release on Friday, August 16th at 12:15. Those not in attendance will stay for Seminar on this day and will have Orientation with Mr. Winter during Seminar.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: We will have student-led, Individual Plan of Study Conferences on October 14th & 16th from 3:15-7:45 p.m. by appointment. We prefer an in-person meeting but we can set up a Google Meet for these meetings if needed. During these student-led conferences, each student will review the number of credits they have earned, their graduation progress, their postsecondary SMART Goal, their academic plan for enrollment in new classes, the assessment they will take in the Spring (ACT/WorkKeys/ Accuplacer/ASVAB), and how it all fits into their post-secondary plans. Our purpose for these student-led conferences is for students to both be empowered to take control of their learning and to also take responsibility for their own future as they, through their choices, will determine their success or failure.

Extended Day Opportunity: Students who struggle with mornings have the opportunity to attend HHS from 9:20-4:35 Monday - Thursday. Please contact the school as soon as possible if your student could benefit from this schedule as we have a limited number of spots available.

COMMUNICATION & PROGRESS REPORTS: Please be sure you keep your contact information current as we will use email to communicate with your student and you throughout the school year. Each week your student’s Advisory Teacher will send via email an electronic progress report to let you and your student know how they are progressing in each class, how much time they have logged on Acellus, and whether or not they have earned early release at 12:15 on Seminar Days. Parents of students who have earned early release will only need to contact the school each week if their student does not have permission to leave early on Seminar Days at 12:15.

Students who are called out of Seminar by parents will have to make up the time they miss in after school tutoring/detention unless documentation is provided for their absence during Seminar.

PATHWAYS/ELECTIVES AT CHS OPEN: Many of our Juniors and Seniors will be taking Pathways courses and Elective courses at Campus (First Period only). As part of our ongoing partnership with Campus, our students may be approved to attend Campus during first block each day to pursue Pathways such as Automotive, Woodworking, Welding, CNA, Fire Science, Business, and FACS Courses as well as Fine Arts classes. Students taking these classes will ride the bus to Campus in the mornings on the day of their classes and will catch a shuttle bus back to HHS after. Space is limited but if you are interested in this opportunity for your student, please let Jenny Garraway, School Counselor, at [email protected], know and we will see if he or she can enroll for either Fall or Spring classes. It may be difficult to get into these classes this Fall but we will do our best to secure a seat for your student as soon as possible if he or she is interested in pursuing these classes at CHS.

WSU-TECH & SENATE BILL 155: Last year we continued our ongoing partnership with WSU-TECH to offer free tuition courses for eligible Juniors and Seniors through Senate Bill 155. Courses offered include: Welding (10 Credits), CNA (10 Credits), Composites (15 Credits), HVAC at WSU-Haysville (11 Credits), Automotive (10 Credits), Aviation (12 Credits), Machining (11 Credits), Aero-structures (15 Credits) as well as many others. This is a great opportunity for our students to go to college for free. While the status of this program may change due to funding, taking free college classes is a great advantage for our students! It is imperative that you follow up by emailing Jenny Garraway, School Counselor, at [email protected] if you are interested in having your student take advantage of this program this Fall. Students must have demonstrated good attendance at CHS/HHS the semester before to be approved to take classes at WSU-Tech through Senate Bill 155.

MEALS: Please review enrollment information for steps on how to qualify for reduced fees and tuition.

TUITION & FEES: Tuition fees at HHS are $55 per session or $220 for the entire year. There is an additional, one-time, materials fee of $45.00 in addition to the tuition fees.

TRANSPORTATION: Bus transportation must be arranged through the Transportation Department 554-2213. Students must live at least 2.5 miles away from HHS to qualify for bus transportation.

*Students are not allowed in the building until 7:15 a.m.

HHS Student Handbook: Our updated, Board approved, HHS Student Handbook is available electronically on our school website. Simply go to USD261.com and select Haysville High School from the drop down menu under the Schools tab. Once at our Website, you can access all the resources provided there including our Student Handbook. We have gone digital for most of our communications including our Student Handbook.

ACT WorkKeys for Juniors: The ACT WorkKeys will be given to all Juniors at HHS in October. This assessment tests students in multiple areas of work readiness. Students who score high enough will receive a National Career Readiness Certificate they can hand to potential employers when applying for jobs.

HHS-Seven-Time National Showcase School for Capturing Kids Hearts: Haysville High School was named a National Showcase School for Capturing Kids Hearts in the Spring of 2024 for the seventh year in a row. We are humbled and honored by this prestigious recognition. Capturing Kids Hearts and the process we use to create a positive, healthy culture for our students, families, and staff are foundational to our mission. We endeavor to make our school a place where our students feel welcome, cared about, and safe. At HHS, our students have a voice in classroom management through the development of our social contract in each class. This is very empowering to our students as they have an active role in creating a healthy school culture.
